Tathapi is a small organisation begun in 2000 and working in the area of 'Women and Health Resource Development'. Tathapi supports health training and advocacy from women's perspectives. The trust upholds people's rights to health and to information. We see gender equality - interwoven with struggles for economic and social equity - as essential towards 'Health for All'. Founded in 1981 by Nirmala Purandare, VANASTHALI, Pune aims to develop education in Maharashtra : this centre offers 6-month training in the villages to women having already a minimum education. VRDC is a voluntary organisation, which feels that the process of rural development has to be initiated at its grassroot level. The social awakening has to be generated at the inner core. We feel that education is the only means which will help make inroads into this stagnant ethos of rural society. In 1960, Dr. V.V.Pendse, Appa an eucationist from Pune dreamt of an institute that will awaken intellectual, physical and spiritual potential in our youth and develop them into integrated individuals committed to making positive contribution to the development of their motherland. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda's views on education, Jnana Prabodhini is now become a multi faceted, multilocational organization recognized at the national and international levels. and runs 4 schools; research institute; a computer training center; 3 other training-cum-production units; a hundred bed hospital, and a rural development program spread over from four adjoining blocks of Pune District, Maharashtra. Anand Gram located close to Alandi village was inaugurated in October, 1970. Rehabilitation of Leprosy patients who built their own houses turned their attention to farming, cattle rearing, tailoring, weaving, leather work and carpentry, which they could manage even with their handicaps. They cooked their own meals, taught their children and started regaining their dignity and self respect in society.
